2021 Art Camp in Review
After a year of no programming thanks to COVID-19 the Red River Valley Museum returned with more than ever! Two weeks of summer art camp for ages 5-15 were a hit with the community. It even brought in some students from Oklahoma!
Pre-registration was required for this program and each day was $10 to cover supplies and teaching costs.
Marketing & Programming Director, Cooper Alexander, led each class through projects ranging from pencil portrait practice to clay creations. She was helped each day by Northside ISD junior, Madi. Executive director, Sherry Yoakum, continued conducting museum business as usual- giving tours to visitors and making sure day to day events ran smoothly. Campers loved when Mrs. Sherry dropped in and told them how great their art looked!
Week one was full of lively kiddos creating awesome art! Our youngster and elementary age groups were at max capacity! The fan favorite of this week had to be Pioneer Journals made from paper grocery bags. Campers loved getting to have a “snowball” fight with their crumbled journal covers to give them an aged an worn look!
Attendance during week one:
11 artists aged 5-8
10 artists aged 9-12
4 artists aged 13-15
Week two was a much smaller group due to parents and students preparing to return to school! These smaller class sizes allowed for more one on one help with projects. Most campers this week were return students from week one. Our youngsters this week were a cheerful group of girls who became fast friends throughout class! Faux Fossils were the favorite this week. They were a bit challenging to get the hang of… but once artists got used to “painting” with glue they couldn’t get enough of it!
Attendance during week two:
5 artists age 5-8
4 artists age 9-12
2 artists age 13-15
